The Fairbanks, Alaska Travel Guide

Thinking about traveling to Fairbanks, Alaska? You are certainly in for a treat. While Fairbanks is not a destination that we have traveled to often, it really only takes once to understand the magic. A true wonderland where you can chase the aurora borealis or bask in the midnight sun. Most of Alaska’s visitors flock to the Southern Coasts and its most populous city of Anchorage, but the central city of Fairbanks, Alaska is not one to miss.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

A trip can’t be planned without gathering information, so we have rounded up some of the nuts and bolts that you will need to know when planning your trip to Fairbanks, Alaska.

GETTING THERE

Unless you live in Alaska, traveling by plane is the easiest option for getting to the Golden Heart City. Fairbanks, Alaska has its own airport, Fairbanks International Airport (FAI), and it is so convenient to land at the heart of everything the destination has to offer.

GETTING AROUND

Regardless of what season you arrive in, a rental car is a desirable option for getting around the city. There are agencies right at the airport, that you can pick up upon arrival. If you are traveling in winter, you may want to upgrade to a four wheel drive vehicle for peace of mind.

CURRENCY

Fairbanks, Alaska is within the United States, so the currency is USD (duh!).

When to Visit

Choosing a time to visit Fairbanks, Alaska really depends on the type of trip you are looking for. Because the destination is located so far North, the summer months offer 24 hours of daylight while winter months are mostly dark. If you are going to chase the aurora borealis, you will definitely want to go when there will be more darkness. If spending Summer Solstice under the midnight sun is your vibe, plan your trip in June.
