Tomorrow we fly to Ireland, and the road trip of our dreams officially begins. The country has always ranked high on our bucket lists, Jen’s because of her family’s Irish heritage and Amanda’s because her nature-loving heart has always been captivated by the lush countryside. After almost a year of planning, the trip is finally here and we are over-the-moon excited for our Ireland road trip adventure to begin.
As we began to plan this trip, it became immediately apparent that this was going to be the most epic girlfriend getaway. We each made our lists of must-sees and we started putting together an itinerary. We plotted and planned, and now we are ready to strap on our boots and start exploring Ireland!
The Plan
As you can see from our map, there are many stops on our Ireland road trip, starting with the capital city of Dublin. After we spend some time exploring all that Dublin has to offer, we’ll make our way down to Cork, with a stop at Waterford along the way. We will jaunt about the colorful coastal cities around Cork, and also take a half day trip to Tipperary.
When we have finished with Cork, we will head out to Killarney, which will include a morning adventure out to the Dingle Peninsula. From Killarney we will head north to Galway, but not without seeing the epic Cliffs of Moher first. We will explore Galway and take a trip out to Connemara, then wrap up the trip by heading back across the country to where it all began, Dublin.
The Highlights
There is so much to see and do in Ireland, but we definitely had our lists of must-sees. A big part of planning this trip was making sure that we both got to see as much of the things that we have dreamed of as possible. Fortunately, a lot of our must-see items overlapped, making the creation of our Ireland road trip itinerary a bit easier than a lot of people would think. There will be a ton of traditional Irish music at pubs and castles throughout, but these are some of the highlights we are looking forward to:
- Taste Irish whiskey at the Jameson Distillery
- Attend a mass at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral
- Tour the Guinness Storehouse
- Purchase crystal at the House of Waterford
- Visit the Rock of Cashel
- Kiss the Blarney Stone (for the gift of gab)
- Bike through Killarney National Park
- Drive the Dingle Peninsula’s Slea Head Loop
- Walk along the Cliffs of Moher
- Explore the grounds of Kylemore Abbey
Just to name a few.
We have got our plan, and we have shared our highlights, now we hope you will follow along. As always with us, there will be tons of laughs, happy tears, libations and snacks (of course!).
