Something special For Everyone On Your Nice List

My Honest Review of the Viral Color-Changing Sunscreen

Whether you are a skincare maximalist with a 29-step routine, or a minimalist who uses nothing beyond the basics, there is one crucial step that you absolutely, under any circumstance, need to apply: sunscreen. Rain or shine, my face doesn’t see the light of day without a generous layer of SPF. With no-makeup makeup looks and skincare-focused products consistently trending, tinted moisturizers with SPF have established a permanent place in my beauty routine and my heart. Colorescience’s Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield Flex has been having a moment on TikTok and Instagram. I gave in and now I’m here to give you my honest review.

My ride-or-die sunscreen used to be Supergoop’s Glow Screen, but after my esthetician told me all about it’s pore-clogging properties, I decided that I needed to make a switch. I hopped over to Saie’s Slip Tint and although I loved it, I found the coverage was a bit light and I wanted a higher SPF. Enter: Colorescience’s Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield Flex. After videos of this color-changing SPF started flooding my FYP, I hit the “buy now” button and crossed my fingers in hopes that I found my new favorite.

At a glance

    • What it is: A lightweight and antioxidant-rich mineral sunscreen with SPF 50 and buildable coverage.
    • Who it’s for: With tone-adapting shades, this dermatologist-tested formula is great for everyone.
    • What I like: Dare I say everything? This foundation swap is hydrating and evens my skin tone perfectly.
    • What I don’t like: At $54, the price is a bit higher than other tinted SPF moisturizers. Even with its four flexible tone-adapting shades, the range may be limiting to those with deeper skin tones.

The Product

looooove a good multitasking product. Colorescience’s viral color-changing sunscreen effortlessly combines makeup and skincare so you can keep your morning beauty routine efficient AF. With it’s antioxidant-rich mineral SPF 50 formula (free of all the nasties), it leverages the power of Zinc Oxide while offering more protection than many other sunscreens on the market. The patented EnviroScreen® Technology defends your skin against more than just UVA/UVB rays, shielding from environmental pollutants, blue light, and infrared radiation as well. This product is also reef safe, so you can defend your skin while also defending the environment.

As if all those skincare benefits were not enough, I must also talk about the viral color-changing magic that lured me in to begin with. The mineral sunscreen comes out white, but the encapsulated Iron Oxide pigments are activated as you buff the product into your skin, releasing and adapting to match your skin tone. This hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic tinted sunscreen delivers buildable coverage with a demi-matte finish and no white cast. Your perfect companion for beautiful, healthy skin.

The Verdict

With so much to say about this product, where do I even begin?! First, a mineral sunscreen that doesn’t give a hint of white cast is a definite winner in my book. And for being an all-mineral sunscreen, the formula is incredibly lightweight and thinner than any other Zinc SPFs I’ve used in the past. It feels so soft on the skin and the demi-matte finish sits perfectly between matte and dewy.

Colorescience’s Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield Flex offers a perfect connection between skincare and makeup. I love being able to build up my coverage, scaling the level based on the day ahead of me. Being able to skip foundation by embracing the natural, healthy finish of this product has simplified my morning routine while giving me the confidence booster I didn’t know I needed.

Retailing at $54 for 1.8 fl. oz., you may be asking if it’s worth the hype. If it fits within your budget, I absolutely think it is. It’s a bit more pricey than similar products, but it has higher SPF (50 compared to Glow Screen’s 40) and greater coverage. My life-hack: This is FSA and HSA eligible on Amazon, so I use my pre-taxed dollars to protect my face. It just so happens that this also doubles as my foundation. #winning

Before After

In a nutshell: this color-changing sunscreen is viral for a reason. It’s a 5/5 for me and a skincare staple that I highly recommend. The natural, healthy-looking glow combined with the color-changing magic gets me giddy during every AM application. If you’re searching for medium coverage with a lightweight formula and badass protection, you need to give Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield Flex a try. Your skin will thank you.

Consider me obsessed and fully committed.
